About
Thank you for your likes, follows and comments. It means a lot, and to be appreciated by creative people is a pure joy. All the boring stuff is below.
Originally from the North of England, I have lived and worked as a professional photographer in New York City since 2007. My aim is to create real images, to engage and impact on an audience that will find the same fascination and wonder that I did. I consider myself politically astute and environmentally aware, I hope my work reflects this.
Lust & Rum is inspired by the Byron Rufus Newton poem ‘Owed to New York’. Byron wrote this satirical poem when he was a reporter for the New York Herald in 1906. It conjures up dark and unapologetic images of a great city, I have tried to do the same ………. New York, thy name’s “Delirium.”
My work in the world of fashion and my passion for street photography was featured in the Al Jazeera America Network Television series ‘Homeless in America’ March 2014
I have covered the last eleven seasons of Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week shooting runway for some of the industry’s leading designers. You can see a collection of my fashion work here: ‘Runway’ and examples of my studio portrait photography here ‘Studio’. To view some of the various projects I have worked on for New York based theatre, arts and entertainment venues including the Guggenheim, Theatre Row, 59E59, La Poisson Rouge, Dancspace and the Rubin Museum amongst many others, go to ‘Venues’.
My architectural photographs were featured in an exhibition at the Museum of the City of New York from June to October of this year. The ‘Reimagining the Waterfront’ exhibition was based on the East River architectural project in association with CIVITAS.

Sam Abell is quoted as saying “Photography produces by simplicity, I see something special and show it to the camera, a picture is produced. The moment is held until someone else sees it. Then it is theirs”. This is a wonderful, artistically romantic statement. Unfortunately, it does not give much consideration for copyright. So, if you wish to own any of my work or have a project that you would like me to work on, please contact me below.

I am NW myself but that doesn’t make us any less related. Thanks for your support
thank you for visiting my blog and the like, your photography is amazing. I’ve never been to NYC but I want to even more now.
Thanks for your kind words, you should visit NYC at least once. For some people once is actually enough.
Nice site, thanks for stopping by my blog 🙂
Thanks, you are welcome
Wonderful site here man! I especially appreciate the views since I was born and raised across the river in Brooklyn, took the subway to NYC a lot as a kid, and left many moons ago. Thanks for checking my blog and liking my recent post at http://blog.glennweissel.com
I keep meaning to get over to Brooklyn more often than I do. It was built to be photographed. Thanks for the comment.
Thanks for dropping by today (well I guess it was yesterday, your time) because now I’ve found your site and am hooked – because my memories of New York are very much of the Lust and Rum variety. I wonder what he’d write about it now?
Thanks for taking the time to comment so favorably. I guess Mr Newton wouldn’t have to change much of his magnificent verse to make it fit the New York of today.
I keep wondering: if that’s how he saw his city in 1909 (was it?) how much worse it might appear today? Though there’s certainly been some improvement simce, do you think that has been across the board?
I think he had a wicked sense of humor but would probably choose his era to ours. I guess that today we have much more sanitized forms of deceit and corruption.
Umm. That’s a very interesting way of putting it. I like that:)

Thank you very much.
Your streetphotography is awesome. It’s a shame there are so many homeless people and it feels like your photos are telling their storys. Makes you think in what kind of world we live in. Great photography.
Thank you, it is a very sad statistic and getting worse.
We’ve nominated your blog for an award (or two, or three…), if you accept them. If not, just consider it a token of our esteem! 😉 See our post at http://windagainstcurrent.com/2013/01/13/award-appreciation-we-thank-our-readers-for/
Hello Anton,
I love your work. My (dutch) blog is mostly about urban exploration, and recently I started with some street photography. Later this year I will visit NYC. Your pictures give me enough inspiration. Greetings from the Netherlands,
Jos
Hey, my apologies for just seeing this. Thank you so much for taking the time to comment, it is much appreciated. I hope your NYC trip is all you hope for.
This is a brilliant compilation of photographs from New York. I am based in Mumbai, India, but New York is a dream when it comes to the street photography genre. I am so amazed and the blog really makes me want to work hard. Love the work,
Stay blessed.
Shreyas.
Hey Shreyas, thank you for the comment, I would love to shoot the streets of Mumbai! I think photographers always want to document the different and are compelled to ‘create’. I think your work is visually stunning. There is a drama in how you shoot and I will be following your blog and looking forward to your images in future.
Thank you, sir. I am glad you like my work. Mumbai is visually stunning when it comes to documenting the streets, but I am saddened by the way we have some impositions over here because the recent terror attacks. We can’t click on the railway stations, people become suspicious and so on. But I have kind of become strong when it comes to approaching people and that makes my work easy to an extent.
I am very sorry for the delay in reply and I am so thankful for that comment.
Stay blessed,
Shreyas.
I absolutely love your blog. Have been to NY three times and completely fallen in love with it – amazing you view it in a whole new way through your photography.
NYC is a stunning mix of the dazzling and the destitute, every time you see it another veil will fall away to reveal a different city beneath it. So many and so deep, you will never see the real New York only the one you choose to see. Thanks for taking the time to comment and your kind words about my work.
What a wonderful way of putting it, and no problem
Really like the way the accompanying stories add value to the already amazing pictures. Love this blog.
Very kind of you to write such a complimentary comment. Thank you.
Never been to NY but you give me an insight of it … Thank You
Believe me, New York is an amazing place and if you get the chance to visit don’t hesitate. Like any major city, it has its dark side, I hope I have not put you off. Thanks for the comment.
Your work is extraordinary and inspiring. I hope someday to capture the reality of this world as you do. Hi, thanks for stopping by my site http://myphotospaceba.wordpress.com It is an honor for me that you liked one of my photos I wish you can give me tips like taking street photographs because it is something I started to do just three months ago. Thank you for your support and kind words. My only advice is to keep going and love what you do. The only reality you have is your own and what you see and how you see it. Good luck.
